New Carpet

22-23 May 2013

After 30 years, we replaced our carpet upstairs. It has been so good and served us well through teen-agers, a dog and two different kitty-cats. It was time.

We had to move all the furniture out. Here is my office.

While everything was moved out, I had the carpet layers help me switch my office and bedroom.

I like it so much better now because my office is much lighter and I don't need the extra room.

This is where I had it before our mission and now I know I like this best.

They did the living room, then the dining room.

We have hardwood floors in the dining room, the hall and the bedrooms.

One day I would like to have the hardwood refinished, repaired and not have carpet,

at least in the hall and the dining room. The living room is not hardwood.

If only this new carpet would last 30 years, but I have my doubts.

The change has lightened things up, for all that was brown is now cream.

It is wonderful that Katelyn has always had such a strong desire to serve a mission. But letting her go has really been hard for me. She is a happy light and has been so important to keep us going after our loss of Cherie. She moves forward with a cheerful attitude. She will be a great missionary because she has developed a deep love for the Savior and loves to help and serve others. She has a tender heart and is so willing to sacrifice her own comfort for the blessing of others, especially the elderly, the handicapped, the lonely and the disadvantaged.

Katelyn spoke in Sacrament Meeting on the 12th of May and the ladies she and Cherie worked with at Oakhills Elementary School provided an amazing and joyous lunch afterwards at the St. John's.

I think this is the little brother of one of Katie's friend boys. He totally loves Katelyn.

Kari is really going to miss this girl. They are good friends.

They have been reading a book together every night before bedtime.

28 May 2013 - Katelyn was set apart as a missionary to serve in the Texas Houston East Mission, Spanish speaking.

Another very tender moment for us.

All packed, looking forward to Texas, ready to go.

Still, it's hard to say good-bye.

Springtime Hike

I love the hikes Julie organizes, but I now get so tired walking uphill that I hold the others back. So embarrassing. But this hike was gentle enough that I could do it and I loved every minute of it. There is something exhilarating about being out in nature on a beautiful spring day.

If Ellie can do it, I should be able to do it.

One of my favorite things about Mother's Day is that Wayne cooks dinner and invites all the women in our family. It is always a happy day that makes me feel blessed.
