General Women's Meeting

There's no place like home.  It made me so happy that cute Paige would want to watch the Women's Meeting with me. She is growing up so fast and she is such a fun girl.

Music and the Spoken Word

 Is there any place more beautiful than Temple Square. I feel so fortunate to live this close and decided to go down to the Sunday morning broadcast.  The day was beautiful and I was glad I went.   

There was a cute group of Japanese students who attended the broadcast.

The detail on the temple is so meaningful. 

Oktoberfest at Snowbird

I was so excited that Melissa was willing to go with me to Oktoberfest. I loved being with her and Ellie, who is so cute, even though the "Fest" was not nearly as fun as in years past. Too many people, too commercial, too enclosed.  I miss the good ole days.  We wanted to ride the tram, but the wait was unbelievably long, so we got a refund on our tickets.  Inspite of it all, I loved the weather and the time spent with Ells and Melissa.

The autumn colors were just starting.

Construction

Satuala's yard has been a sore-spot from the time they moved in.  They cut down all the trees, destroyed the lawn, and used the yard as a construction storage site. They are such nice people, thank goodness, or we would be even more upset.  

While we were on our mission, they pitched the roof and built an extension on the front.

In September they started an extension to the east, close to us.

 Watching the construction process was interesting. I hope he finishes it. 

We have loved our sunroom. It was added to our home in 2004 and ten years later we still love it. But since our huge ash tree had to be cut down, it is very hot in there so we had Four Season come and see if there was a problem with the glass. There was. It had now failed to shield as it ought. We had it replaced and it helps--but $7,000.00
worth. We're not sure.

Last week, October 16th, our neighbor, Paul Jackson, had two huge trees by the property line between our homes, taken out.  They were old and fragile. We were glad to see them go, but they totally destroyed our flower/shrub garden in the process.  It is interesting to watch though. Now eight trees in our yard or next door have been taken out since we moved in.  There are no more.

Birthday Dinner for Tom & Julie

Melissa invited us to celebrate the birthdays of Tom (30 August) and Julie (6 September) at her home for a Sunday dinner.  Nothing better than being with family.

Hermana Flores Visits

Hermana Flores was one of Katelyn's companions.

She came to meet the family and we had her here for Sunday dinner.

She will be starting law school at BYU right away. She was delightful.

She brought some pictures to share. I loved getting some of them.

I got one of the obligatory photos from Spencer.

I think he forgot about the one by the "What 'er Thou Art" stone.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Best possible way to spend a birthday.

Taking the departing missionary to the Brick Oven in Provo for lunch has become a

delightful family tradition.

 

They are a happy family.

Spencer's Farewell

Spencer and Hayden gave great talks in Sacrament Meeting.

Spencer is so ready to go on a mission, even at only 18 years old.

The St. Johns, friends and those of us here made taco salads.

Julie made the cupcakes.

Melissa made the cookies.

It made me so happy to have my three girls here.

Claudine, Kim, Julie, Chantel

They all made a great effort to be here and support Spencer and his family.

Everyone missed Cherie so very much -- but perhaps she was smiling down on us.

 

Cute Paige made a lot of festive decorations.

I asked her how she knew how to make these.  She said she Googled it.

The St. John's gather in the family room. Spencer has great support and love from them.

I love Hayden and he is getting more handsome every day.

 

Chase brought the girl he has been dating, Tiegan Hatch, and they seem to get along beautifully.

I was glad Shawna brought Mom.  I think they enjoyed being there.

Spencer was set apart as a missionary. A lot of good men participated in this blessing.

Spencer immediately turned his phone over to Paige and had her prepare some contact information for him.  She said, "I guess I can't listen to music tonight when I am going to sleep because my room is right next to Spencer's."  Oh how I love these kids!

Just a few more hours and he is so excited.
